OPG X-ray (Orthopantomography)
What is Orthopantomography (OPG)?

An OPG is a special kind of X-ray that takes a picture of your whole mouth.

It shows all your teeth, even the ones that haven’t grown in yet, like wisdom teeth. You can also see your jawbones and the joints that help you open and close your mouth.

What does an OPG X-ray consist of and involve?

An OPG X-ray is an X-ray of the lower face, showing the bones and teeth. It uses low-level radiation to create these images.

During the procedure, the patient rests their chin on a small shelf and bites on a sterile mouthpiece to keep their head steady. The X-ray machine has a rotating arm that moves around the head to take a wide view of the mouth and jaw.

The process is quick and painless, allowing the patient to continue with their day immediately afterward.

Why is an OPG X-ray done?

An OPG X-ray is done to help the dentist see all the teeth, their position, and growth, including teeth that haven’t come in yet. It can be used to plan braces, check wisdom teeth, look at the jawbone, or get a general view of dental health.
Before the X-ray, you need to remove jewelry, glasses, or any metal objects because they can interfere with the images.
